Theology Matters:
The Course
Welcome to the brand new
Phase 2 of Theology Matters
Starting in 2020, TM: The Course has been teaching a diverse range of people, from new Christians to faith veterans, by exploring topics such as “Who is Jesus?” “What should we believe about Creation?”, and “What happens at the end of the world?” These nine sessions have systematically looked at key doctrines of Christianity.
Starting in September 2025, the TM team has planned and put together a completely new-look course schedule, with nine new biblical themes to explore from “The Mission of God,” “The Covenants of God,” and “The Kingdom of God.” Whereas in previous years, we have taken core doctrines and worked backwards in this new iteration we will survey key passages and work through common themes found across the whole Bible.
The course times have also changed to 9am to 1pm, so that those who cannot commit a whole day can still attend.

with Andrew Larkin, Redeemer Plymouth. The Story of God spans across the whole Bible, this session takes a survey of the overarching story line of the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

The Mission of God
with Jordan Round, Redeemer Plymouth. The Mission of God is consistent throughout the pages of the Bible. In this session, we will explore what God’s mission is, our involvement with God’s mission, and what this looks like in practise.

The Kingdom of God
with Dan Roach, Grace Church, Exeter. The Kingdom of God encompasses its preparation in Power, through the Law, prophets, and Writings, its embodiment through People and the gospel (good news), and its achievement in the word today, the New Testament Church.

The Presence of God
with Phil Lowman, Redeemer Church, Plymouth. In the Garden of Eden, God was said to “walk” with Adam and Eve, they knew his presence. This session will explore themes of the temple, regeneration, and expansion as we look at how God dwells with us.

The City of God
with Adrian Birks, The Community Church, Honiton. The City of God is often associated with Jerusalem, of his people Israel, and we will look at how the city of God has taken on a new shape in the New Testament Age, and will culminate in a new creation.

The Leaders of God
with Tom Clewer, Grace Community Church, Porthcawl. The Leaders of God are important figures throughout the Bible narrative, and they include priests, prophets, judges and Kings. In this session we will explore all of these, and what leadership looks like today.

The Warfare of God
with Andrew Larkin, Redeemer Church, Plymouth. What is the biblical worldview of war? In this session we will look at if and why war may be expected or necessary. In the lives of believers, Paul in his letters speaks of internal wars and powers of the air that are unseen or untangible, so we will look at aspects of spiritual warfare.

The Covenants of God
with Johnny Carson, The Way Church, Ballyclare. What is a covenant? What covenants has God made? Which are still applicable to the lives of Christians today? All of these questions will be explored in this session on the Covenants of God.

The Sovereignty of God and Responsibility of Humans
With Andrew Sampson, Grace Church, Truro. What does the Bible say about the sovereignty of God, and the responsibility of humans to obey his words and commands. This biblical theme has big implications on the lives of believers, and is one not to miss.
